Creating Sacred Space

Sacred space is a great gift to give all those who enter your space. Including you. It is a place of wellbeing, harmony and support where you can offer your greatest work.

Have you ever walked into a space that just felt incredible to you?

Light, clear, vibrant, healing, comfortable, accepting, loving… In this article I am excited to share with you the concept of a tangible energy field that is created with repeated use of sacred sounds like Om.

Several years ago, I was given the gift of experiencing the power of Om in a startlingly visceral way. I received a request to facilitate a team building exercise using singing Tibetan Bowls for a group of fifty librarians. The idea fascinated me, so I said yes. And then had to figure out how to actually facilitate such an exercise.

The healing power of a single singing Tibetan bowl is profound.

A room full of fifty people playing twenty-five Tibetan bowls all at once would be profound times twenty-five!!

Sound is a physical energy. As a vibrational energy, a sound pushes against atoms and molecules and sends them into a state of vibration.

Sound travels through your body faster than it goes through the air. In addition to sending your atoms and molecules into a state of vibration, the sound energy also shakes up the emotional energy that is held in the 99% ‘empty space’ within the atoms.

Tibetan singing bowls are really good at shaking up this emotional energy within and allowing it to be released. It’s one of the great gifts of healing these beautiful bowls offer you.

Well, imagine this release of emotional energy times fifty all in one room! I can tell you I was more than a little concerned about that. I knew that at the end of the exercise, the room would be filled with heavy emotional energy. Whenever I work with a group of people with sound, I like to leave the energy of the space we’re in sparklingly clear. So as the day grew near, I went within and asked for divine guidance for how to clear the space quickly and easily. And then I listened.

My answer came a couple of days before the event.

It was so simple. Tone 3 Oms.

After many years of asking for divine guidance, doubting it at times and following it anyway, I have learned to trust it when I receive it. So, at the end of the exercise with the librarians, the room was indeed filled with thick, heavy emotional energy that had been released. It was REALLY thick!

I explained to the group that I was going to sing three Oms to complete our time together. They were all invited to join me if they wished.

I toned the first Om and several people toned with me. As we toned the second Om, I actually felt a gentle breeze flow through the room from the left side to the right side. As we toned the third Om, the room filled with light.

I stood there in awe and deep reverence.

Om has a tangible and powerful energy field that has been created from being used for thousands of years in a sacred way. It is quite real, and you call this field into your space whenever you tone or chant it.

Human thought is a powerful energy.

Focused, repeated thought creates a tangible field of energy. Sacred sound combined with focused thought creates a field of energy that stays in a space and feeds and supports all who enter there. Sacred space for sacred work – like a yoga class or practice.

The sacred sounds from many traditions already have a powerful and beautiful energy field from thousands of years of chanting or use. Sounds like Om, Amen, Alleluia, Shalom, Mantras and so many more.

As a sensitive empath, I have been aware of energy fields for a long time, both positive and negative aspects. I have invited specific sacred sounds and mantras to help me co-create sacred and beautiful space for Sound Wellness Institute events for many years.

Om, the Medicine Buddha Mantra and clearing mantras accompanied by my voice, intention and an amazing Tibetan singing bowl have created healing and sacred space in hotel meeting rooms, community halls and even in our booth at trade fairs.

People continually share with me how wonderful they feel in the sacred space created for our events.

I have also found that if we use the same meeting room for future events, the space has a memory of the energy field originally created and it is recreated easily and quickly.

Can you imagine the energy field you can create in a space where you live or work every day? If this is something that would serve you and/or your clients, you can create a space that feels amazing.

Create Sacred Space Yourself

In our Sound Wellness programs, we teach many ways to create sacred space. Here are some a few tips:

1. Do this first with no one else in your space. Begin by being in a clear space yourself. You can meditate or contemplate what you are grateful for. A strong feeling of gratitude raises your vibration to create a clear space to work from in creating this positive, healing field.

2. Focus your intention to create a high vibrational, positive energy field in your space.

3. If you have a special singing bowl, tingshas or other sound tools that have a sound with the quality you want to bring into your space, use them too.

4. Choose the sacred sounds you want to sing into your space. Using a singing sound carries great energy when combined with your focused intent and high vibration.

5. Holding gratitude in your heart, move around the room, singing your mantra or sound in the space along with your other sound tools, if you have chosen to use them.

Sacred space is a great gift to give all those who enter your space. Including you. It is a place of wellbeing, harmony and support where you can offer your greatest work.
