PAST AND PRESENT – Generational Planets in the Natal Chart

CINDY DEJAGER

When I was a child I was fascinated with science and metaphysics. I had memories that I could not understand and I have always known that I have lived other lives. I grew up in the 60s and 70s generation – the Age of Aquarius was the buzz and so was a really big word that I can still remember so clearly: antidisestablishmentarianism.

Those of you who are my age (65 or older) can probably remember those times – and this word.

It was a time of upheaval and rebellion. Anti-disestablishment-tarianism was a word coined to describe the great dissatisfaction with ‘the man’ (government). It was a time of protests and demonstrations. There were Women’s Rights movements, Ban the Bra, Hell No We Won’t Go (Vietnam War Draft Resisters) —

In the 1960s the planets Uranus and Saturn were squared; and Pluto and Uranus were traveling together in an approximate 10 degree orb. The powerful energies of these three planets was about making ground-breaking changes. It feels very familiar today.

I haven’t always been as deeply interested in astrology; you know how it goes, life calls to you and beckons you to take its journey. And then, as the years and the wisdom culminate you find yourself in front of a fork in the road and the soul wind calls to you once again. It is time to bring all your wisdom and experiences together and resume your studies. That is how I found my way back to my soul’s purpose (passion).

Evolutionary Astrology

I don’t remember exactly how it was that I stumbled on Evolutionary Astrology, or maybe it found me. I do remember the feeling that I had deep inside of me – the searching feeling.

From what I understand now, the first 29-30 years of our lives are spent working out our karma and setting our sails in the direction that our souls intended to take in this life.

It is Pluto that correlates to the Soul. Your Natal Pluto by Sign and House, and your Pluto Polarity Point, together with the position of the South and North Nodes of the Moon, tell us why we came into this life and what our intentions are to learn from this lifetime.

I was born with Pluto in 1 degree of Virgo.

At 1 degree the vibration of the previous Leo energy was still powerfully felt. Pluto was in Leo from 1937-1957. It was a tumultuous time: The Great Depression, WWII, Hitler, and Roosevelt. Though Pluto had moved into Virgo by 1 degree it does not mean that the energy of that period just disappears and suddenly you experience the new phase. It is much like when a season changes; though the calendar may say that it is the first day of winter it takes time: the leaves begin to change color and then they drop and the weather cools day by day until one day you feel that it is now truly winter. It is much the same way with interpreting your astrology. When a slow moving planet such as Pluto orbits the sun it takes 248 years for a full cycle. So, as it moves into a new cycle it could take many years for the effect to be felt or to dissipate.

Pluto moved into Virgo on August 19, 1957. As the energy of Leo slowly dissipated it began to extend itself outward to others – of being of service to others, health and wellness of the body. We began to see much interest in holistic health and medicine – and I would like to mention here too that it was in 1977 that the asteroid Chiron was first discovered that ushered in an explosion of interest in holistic healing. I’ll talk more about Chiron another time.  Pluto changed signs in 1972 when it moved into Libra. Libra is the transition from focus on ‘self’ to ‘others’.

Today Pluto is in Capricorn, Uranus is in Taurus and Saturn in Aquarius.

As we witness the unprecedented shifts and upheaval of governments and social systems, and our supply chains and ecology/climate, world food supplies, we see Pluto and Uranus at work uprooting and dissolving the old to make way for the new, while Saturn in Aquarius makes sure that the changes are for the good of the people and the world.

Pluto will move into Aquarius on January 21, 2024 and will remain there for the next 20 years. As I said before, it takes many years to feel the effect of the energy and vibration of a planet, so we can’t expect to feel the Aquarius energy immediately.

Pluto is a deep and expansive subject but I’ll leave it here for now. If you are interested in learning more about evolutionary astrology I have a couple of book recommendations below. Until next time, have an amazing November.
