I asked Tricia to tell me what motivated her to write her book and create her business:

When I was overweight as a child, there were only a handful of books available at the library about nutrition. They were gimmicky and promoted faddish ways of eating such as following a popcorn or ice cream diet. I remember my mom had a copy of the grapefruit diet that had been typed on a typewriter and shared many times. It seemed very unpalatable, and there was not much to eat. The path to weight loss was so confusing.
I discovered in high school that exercise and eating a sensible diet could support weight loss, but I still had an “on a diet/off a diet” way of thinking about food. I was intrigued about the idea of going to college to become a registered dietitian. This would help me to become an expert in nutrition, and to figure out how to help myself and others.
After becoming a dietitian and working for several organizations, I decided to create my own business to be able to focus on the way I helped people best- through speaking and coaching. Upon doing this for several years, I found there was more to say when a one-hour consultation or presentation ended. I wrote Healthy Dividends: Investments in Nutrition, Movement, and Healthy Habits that Pay Off to give people additional helpful hints on optimizing their nutrition. While writing, I kept in mind the type of information that people are looking for in a nutrition book, whether they want to feel better, lose weight, have more energy, or live longer. I sprinkled motivational stories throughout the book to help inspire my readers. Luckily, with sound nutrition books like Healthy Dividends available, people of all ages can avoid the melted ice cream and stale popcorn diets of the past.
